Pastoral Care Services
Are you being called to be a Pastoral Care Visitor?
Spiritual Care is integral to healing.
At Redlands Community Hospital, the Pastoral Care Services include a dedicated group of caring individuals, the Pastoral Care Visitors, who volunteer their time for the spiritual care of patients.
Many years of dedicated service has brought countless accolades from former patients and families of patients, who have felt that Pastoral Care Visitors have made a difference in their hospital experience.
Pastoral Care Visitors are currently serving at Redlands Community Hospital, Asistencia Villa and in the Redlands Community Hospital Emergency Room in the evenings.
What does a Pastoral Care Visitor do?
Listen
The primary task is to be a good listener, giving opportunity for patients to share their stories and concerns. It is in the experience of shared listening that one experiences healing. It is important to be present to support a person caught in the midst of illness without judgment or criticism.
Care
A major component of being a Pastoral Care Visitor is Care. Care is that quality of emotional fabric which allows people to get along, to relate and help each other. Caring involves the ability and willingness to see, or want to see, another person's needs or point of view. Caring knows when to hold back and when not to overdo it! Caring is giving what is appropriate for the needs of the individual and does not devalue you or the patient.
Assist
Pastoral Care Visitors may read to patients, write letters, assist with phone calls or they may just sit and listen to music together or reminisce.
Pray
When initiated by a patient, praying together can be instrumental in their healing.
